Your privacy is very important to Manna Food Center (Manna).  We want to make your relationship with our organization (both online and offline) is as secure and positive as possible. This policy outlines the collection, use and protection of information relevant to our mission as it relates to visitors to Manna’s web site, online and offline donors, and clients seeking services.  Manna will not sell or trade donor information.

Online: Website & Email Privacy

This website (www.mannafood.org) is owned and operated by Manna Food Center. Generally, you can visit Manna’s website without revealing any information about yourself. Our web servers collect information through aggregate tracking, such as domain names but not individual email addresses, to compile data such as the number of visits our site receives, the average time spent on the site, the pages viewed, etc. We collect this anonymous data utilizing Google Analytics to measure site usage and to help us improve site performance.

There are some instances in which you may choose to provide personal information to Manna. This may include making a donation, purchasing tickets to an event, signing up for a newsletter and/or submitting a form to volunteer. In these instances, Manna uses encryption software to keep your personal information, including credit card numbers, secure. The information provided over our secure data lines is used to process your request.

Any information you choose to provide in an email to us may not be secure and is used only to respond to your request.

Manna’s website may include links to other sites, such as our major donors, social service agencies and government resources. While we strive to link only to sites that share our high standards and respect for privacy, we are not responsible for the content or the privacy policies of other sites.

Opt Out

When making a secure one-time or recurring donation through our online platform, donors have the ability to provide personal contact information, including an email address.  Donors can opt-in to Manna News, which will add any email address provided to our monthly e-newsletter distribution. This email publication can be unsubscribed to at any time, utilizing the button or link at the bottom of the email. 

Online donors will also be added to Manna’s donor database and may occasionally receive physical mail, including Manna’s Annual Report.  You have the option to opt out of future mailings by simply notifying Manna directly at info@mannafood.org or at 301-424-1130 ext. 34. Manna is committed to removing any opt-out requests as soon as possible. It is our policy not to share any information about an individual to a third party.


Use of “Cookies”

Manna Food Center’s website may use “cookies” and similar means to collect aggregate statistical information. Aggregate information does not identify any individual person. We may use or disclose aggregate information for any purpose. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your hard disk by a web page server. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you and are designed to be read only by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you. Cookies are also used to recognize visitor preferences, temporarily store session information and past activity at our site in order to provide better service and easier access when individuals return to our site. If you choose to decline cookies, you may not be able to fully experience the interactive features of this or other Websites you visit.

Offline: Data Collection & Retention

Manna Food Center is committed to maintaining the highest level of confidentiality regarding the constituent information (donor, volunteer, and client) that we collect, use, and maintain. This privacy standard protects the privacy of constituent information in accordance with federal and state privacy laws, Manna’s contractual obligations, and our constituents’ reasonable expectations of privacy.

Constituent information is used and disclosed only for Manna’s mission-related activities and operations. In addition, use and disclosure of constituent information are limited to a “minimum necessary” standard, except in certain situations specified by law. Other uses and disclosures of constituent information, including disclosures to third parties, shall not generally occur unless the constituent provides their consent. Constituents may exercise the rights granted to them under this privacy policy free from any intimidating or retaliatory acts.

Participant Data

Manna collects or verifies basic personal information about all participants (clients) when an appointment for pick-up is made. Below are general categories of information that we collect, for eligibility and reporting purposes.

Participant contact information: Manna asks for contact information such as your full name, complete address (P.O. Boxes are not acceptable), date of birth, telephone number, email address, contact preferences, emergency contact, and the number of adults and children in a participant’s family. We collect this information so that we may evaluate the number of individuals receiving our services and contact participants with service related information.  We consider this information private and limit how it is used and disclosed.

Demographic information: Manna asks for limited demographic information such as your race, ethnicity, and primary language. This information is used to help us to better understand the individuals we serve or to better communicate with you. We consider this information private and limit how it is used and disclosed.

Financial information. Manna asks for financial details solely for the purpose of determining eligibility for services.  This information includes monthly gross income, employment status and any assistance currently received from the government or other organizations (with amounts). We consider this information confidential.

Referring agency information: Manna collects basic information related to any agency that is referring participants for service.  This includes agency name, contact person, and phone number.
