block2.jpg - 884 Bytes Smart Sacks
Smart Sacks is Manna's innovative program to fight childhood hunger. Each Friday, Smart Sacks provides hungry elementary school students in Montgomery County with 10-12 nutritious and kid-friendly foods for the weekend in backpacks handed to them at their local school. On Monday the backpacks are returned and refilled for the next weekend.

Corporations partner with a school to provide the volunteer labor to fill and deliver the backpacks each week. Current Smart Sacks partner organizations include White Flint Storage/Storage Village, Blair High School, Woodlin Elementary School, Girl Scouts Service Unit 33-7, Grace Community Church, Shady Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation, Goddard School, Bethesda United Methodist Church, Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy, Acorn Self-Storage, Healthy Directions, the Carl M. Freeman Companies, United Health Care, Sodexo, Calvert Group, EU Services, Columbo Bank, Teratech, Choice Hotels, Adventist Rehabilitation Hospital, Montgomery College, and MCT Federal Credit Union.

Call 301-424-1130 to learn how your company can partner with a local school to fight hunger.

Special thanks to Whole Foods Markets for every month donating 1,200 shelf-stable single-serve containers of milk for Smart Sacks. Their generosity ensures that the children in Smart Sacks have milk to drink nourish their growing minds and bodies.
